A silent portrait of a woman still holding on to hope, waiting for her husband who went out to sea many years ago and never returned.
She sat silently on the doorstep. Although her eyes were looking at me, her gaze seemed fixed on a distance far beyond me.
“Why are you sitting there, staring into the distance?” I asked.
She remained silent for a moment before replying—
“My husband went out to sea many years ago… but he still hasn’t come home.”
To her, the sea is not merely a place that provides a living. It is also the place that took away the man she loved and has never offered an answer. Although time has etched years across her face, a small hope that he might one day return still lives within her eyes.
That doorstep is not empty, even today. Beside her sits the hope she has kept alive for someone who never returned.
